Sight, Sound & Story: Behind the Edit of "Shrinking"
Inside Episode XLIV: Join "Shrinking" Editors Sarah Lucky and James Renfroe as they take you inside the editing room and share the creative process behind the series. From crafting character arcs to fine-tuning the show’s rhythm, they reveal how they collaborated to preserve its distinctive tone and strike the right balance between humor and emotion. They'll break down some of their favorite scenes and explore the role of collaboration in keeping the storytelling cohesive and engaging from episode to episode.

Panelists*:
Sarah Lucky, a Los Angeles native, graduated from USC's School of Cinematic Arts. She began her career in post on films like "The Girl Next Door," "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," and numerous Adam Sandler comedies. Her editing debut came on "Grace and Frankie," and continued on various shows such as “Better Things" and, most recently, “Shrinking." She also edited a few features, such as "Senior Year," starring Rebel Wilson. Passionate about editing since high school, Sarah thrives on the creative puzzle-solving it offers.
James Renfroe is an accomplished film and television Editor. He started his career working as an Editor on "10 Things I Hate About You" (Season 1) directed by Gil Junger and "The Muppets" (Season 1) Executive Produced by Bill Prady & Bob Kushnell for ABC. He is a frequent collaborator with Bill Lawrence, starting with his work as an Editor on "Shrinking" (Season 1-3) and as an Associate Producer on "Bad Monkey" (Apple TV). His work can also be seen in NBC’s "Superstore" (Seasons 1-6), where, in addition to editing 56 episodes, he served as a Director on 2 episodes and as an Associate Producer for multiple seasons. He recently collaborated with Showrunner Quinta Brunson on ABC’s "Abbott Elementary" (Season 4).
Other Editor credits include NBC Universal’s "American Auto" (Season 1 & 2), Executive Produced by Jeffrey Blitz, Dana Honor, Aaron Kaplan, Justin Spitzer; and "St. Denis Medical," Executive Produced by Eric Ledgin & Justin Spitzer. Within feature films, Renfroe edited "KTown Cowboys," Executive Produced by Ken Jeong and directed by Daniel Park, starring Daniel Dae Kim, Eric Roberts, Steve Byrne, and Jeong, which premiered at SXSW in 2015. His work can also be seen as Editor in "After Darkness: directed by Batan Silva, starring Natalie Dyer, Robert Aguire, Kyra Sedgwick, & John Patrick Amedori. As well as "Kid Stockwell, Concrete Blondes" directed by Nicholas Kalikow, and "Just Add Water" directed by Hart Bochner with Sony Pictures, starring Melissa McCarthy, Jonah Hill, Justin Long, Danny DeVito, and Dylan Walsh.
Chad Anderson is a college professor, animation geek, poet, video editor & skateboarder from the Jersey Shore. He has worked on various editing and visual FX projects for corporate, educational, broadcast, non-profit, and military organizations all over the country (and once in Korea). Previous clients have included E! Entertainment, "The Charlie Rose Show," the WB, The Count Basie Theatre, and a film that went straight to video with John Stamos in it. He holds a Master’s in Education from NJCU and has been teaching for over 18 years. His favorite movie is "Joe Versus the Volcano."
